What It Is

An intimate monthly performance arts space in King's Heath,
welcoming musicians, poets, storytellers, visual artists, and their audience.

Hatstand is absolutely unamplified and there's no real stage -
as little as possible separates performers from the crowd.

HOW IT WORKS

Performers. Arrive for 7:30pm to sign-up. It's first come, first served; those who get on stage enter for free.

Stage times vary depending on how busy the night is - as a rough guide, singer-songwriters tend to play 1-2 tunes, poets tend to read 2-3 pieces. Other kinds of performance? Plan to be on stage for around 7 minutes.

Pop-up shop and gallery. Our shop is a visual performance space for artists who work on canvas rather than on stage! Arrive for 7:30pm if you want to display work, and please price work in advance.

Stage artists are also welcome to put their merch in the gallery.

Audience. Arrive for 8pm, or accompany your performing friends earlier! £5 admission (£4 concessions).

Our show is programmed around a single interval and finishes between 10:30 and 11pm.

Whoever you are, please obey our only rule. Give your absolute attention and respect to whatever's happening on stage!

Video

Watch our stupid video! In this short film, Hatstand's founder and host takes metaphor one step too far by building an actual hatstand. On the way, we also see brief footage of Hatstand's auspicious ancestor the Catweazle Club (down in Oxford).
